We have an adventure filled, year round program. To do this takes some time investment, commitment from scouts and parents, money, and of course a robust, well organized Pack structure.
During the regular school year, we usually meet 4-6 hours each month. We meet weekly for about an hour each Monday. Some meetings will be for the entire Pack while others will be with your Den or grade level. During any given month, we may also have special weekend events which can run 2 - 4 hours depending on what it is. To get the most from the program, your scout should attend the weekly meetings, at a minimum.
We'll also have three overnight adventures a year, like campouts or lock-ins. One in the fall, spring, and summer. These can last from 2 - 3 days depending on where we go.
In the summer months, we run a lighter program with 1 - 2 events each month for a couple of hours each and a week-long day camp in June.
The Cub Scout program is very parent and leader led. Pack 62 is no exception. But that takes a firm commitment from all parents, leaders, and scouts to be engaged. We expect our scouts to be a part of our program with parents right there with them. Our ask is that at least one parent attend each event along with their scout.
While we do our best to keep program costs low, there are a few fees we need to lay out. They include:
Annual $91 national BSA registration fee. This is paid by every scout, nation wide, at sign up and then yearly on the join date anniversary.
Annual $100 local Pack 62 due. This helps us pay for awards, supplies, and adventures and is paid every January. *
~$25 - $100 for a uniform and scout book. Expect to purchase a uniform every other year.
For campouts, we ask each family to bring at least one food item to contribute.
Every scout is provided a Pack t-shirt when they join.
* Scouts that participate in our annual fall fundraiser can have their Pack due waived.
We are a fundraising Pack and have two major campaigns each year:
Popcorn! We sell popcorn from August - October. Our typical sales events include storefront shifts, wagon sales, and an online link. Those scouts that fundraise have a chance to have their annual Pack due waived and even a summer overnight adventure paid for.
Garage Sale! Each spring, we have our annual Pack garage sale. One day only! So save those gently used items as they just might go to help our Pack.
To keep us organized, we have a Pack structure that includes the Key 3, Pack Committee, and a Den for each grade level. Each Cub Scout grade level is a rank and is associated with an animal or symbol.
Key 3: Includes the Cubmaster, Committee Chair (to keep us organized) and our Chartered Org Representative.
The Pack Committee meets monthly to keep the everything running smooth. We also have two Den leaders per grade level.
Lion Den for kindergarteners.
Tiger Den for 1st graders.
Wolf Den for 2nd graders.
Bear Den for 3rd graders.
Webelos Den for 4th graders.
Arrow of Light or AOL Den for 5th graders.
It takes a village to run this all volunteer program. Every leader from the Cubmaster, to the Den leaders, to the Committee Chair, to the extra pair of hands are passionate volunteers to ensure youth have a fun, engaging extracurricular program. We always have Pack positions that need filling, just ask.
Other Pack volunteer opportunities include the New Member Coordinator, Camping Chair, Popcorn Kernel, Pinewood Derby Chair, Advancement Chair, Events Committee Chair, Treasurer, Religious Emblem Coordinator, and of course, anyone who has a servant heart.
